Student Admissions

Each year we accept 30-35 sixth graders from nearly 30 public and parochial middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our students represent the ethnic and economic diversity of the Bay Area and have had a variety of academic preparation. In general, Summerbridge students should:

  • be self-directed and motivated
  • have a goal of attending college
  • demonstrate academic promise
  • have a firm commitment to learning and value education
  • have a compelling economic need for a tuition free program

While Summerbridge students each come to the program with different needs, all students leave with the academic skills that will prepare them for successful experiences at rigorous college-preparatory high school programs.

In return for the services that Summerbridge provides, families are expected to make a commitment to the program:

Required Family Commitment

  • THREE consecutive 6-week summer sessions. The 2010 summer program will run from Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Daily attendance is mandatory.
  • School year program (13 weeks each semester)
    • At least one afternoon per week English and/or math enrichment classes (ALL students)
    • SSAT preparation class for 8th grade students (approximately six after school sessions and two Saturday sessions)
  • High school counseling program for 8th grade students and families
  • Parent/Guardian education workshops (approximately one per semester)
  • Tutoring offered Monday - Thursday (optional unless student earns lower than B- in a core subject)
  • High school (9th - 12th) continued academic and extracurricular support

If you have any questions, please contact Assistant Director, Samuel Beltran, at (415) 447-3127 or samuel.beltran@sfuhs.org.
