Student Support
Director of Health and Wellness
The
Director of Student Health & Wellness is responsible for
monitoring and promoting the mental and physical well-being of all students,
overseeing the tenth grade health curriculum and senior peer advising program,
developing and leading education programs on relevant adolescent issues for the
school community. The Director of Health and Wellness is a mental health counselor who is available to see students one on one to provide counseling or referrals to outside support professionals.
Support Team
Students are surrounded by a support team that consists of their advisor, class dean, Director of Health and Wellness, Director of Student Multicultural Affairs, Dean of Students, and Academic Dean. Through careful coordination of efforts, this team works carefully to support each student as he/she grows academically, emotionally and socially.
Typical Issues that students face include:
Ninth
Grade:
support with transitional issues relating to friendships, developing study
skills and time management habits, helping students get to know each other,
introducing good decision making skills that relate to socializing and
drug/alcohol use, managing stress and anxiety.
Tenth
Grade:
support with changing friendships/social groups, more information about
drugs/alcohol use and decision-making, intimate relationship support,
communication skill development, general teen health education.
11th/12th
Grade:
support with differentiation from parents and friends, stress/anxiety
management, college application support, relationship issues, boundaries, communication with
parents/peers, transitioning to college.
