Student Life
Students at
UHS have the opportunity to pursue their passions and gather with other
students and adults for activities and discussions
based on these interests. The daily schedule was designed to allow students time to meet. Every year,
students invent new clubs and have fun trying out new things.
During a typical lunchtime period you might expect to find:
- The Gadget club tinkering with a broken radio
- The Asian Club discussing multi-racial identity
- The Green Club preparing a skit about recycling
On a larger scale, students are encouraged to take initative to develop all school activities that promote fun and provide a change of pace. Last spring, student leaders organized the UHS Olympics where teams with members from each grade level competed in games like a greased watermelon relay, tug-of-war, and obstacle course. We believe that the process of empowering students to create meaningful events provides them with an opportunity to demonstrate responsibility and take ownership over positively influencing school culture.
